Dutch
born painter
Marinus Welman started
painting as a child in
World War II. In his
youth, Welman roamed
the world's oceans on a
wild freighter, (a rusty
Liberty ship left over
from the war) all the
while gathering
impressions which still
serve him today – a
stormy North Atlantic or
a placid Indian Ocean
might figure in his work.
Welman studied the art
of painting and sculpture
in his native Holland.
In the United States, he attended
courses in figure painting with
Carmian at the Art Center
in Los Angeles. These days Welman paints in the studio
as well as on location along the California coast,
mountains and deserts.
His works are represented by galleries from
San Diego to Carmel and are in private and
corporate collections in Europe, Japan,
Australia and Iceland. A large selection of
Welman's work is on view in his 1,500 square
foot studio/gallery in Orange, 3 miles north of historic
Old Towne Orange on Glassell Street.
